Allegations In Zyprexa Lawsuits

The allegations within any individual Zyprexa lawsuit will vary from case to case. However, the allegations in the class action Zyprexa lawsuit were generally that Zyprexa has caused a number of side effects which have injured and/or made Zyprexa users ill. It is further alleged that Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of the drug, knew about these Zyprexa side effects and failed to adequately warn about them.

Experts allege that both the FDA and Eli Lilly had knowledge of serious Zyprexa risks before this drug was even approved for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in the United States. One report states that two thirds of all pre-marketing clinical trial participants were unable to complete the study due to serious Zyprexa complications.

Since 2000, various researchers worldwide have reported hundreds of cases of patients developing diabetes as a result of Zyprexa use. In addition to diabetes, one hundred people also developed ketosis, a serious and life threatening diabetes complication. More than twenty people developed pancreatitis, and condition whereby the pancreas becomes inflamed and begins to die. Twenty three subjects in this study died as a result of serious Zyprexa side effects. In addition to diabetes and death risks, Zyprexa use has also been associated with the worsening of Alzheimer symptoms, ketoacidosis, hyperglycemia, weight gain, diabetic coma, pancreatitis, Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, seizures, and other life threatening conditions.

In addition to these serious Zyprexa side effects, there are a number of other side effects that can be caused by Zyprexa. Ironically, Zyprexa and all drugs of its class, were developed in an effort to reduce the instance of side effects associated with traditional antipsychotic medications. If you have experienced any Zyprexa side effects you may wish to notify your medical practitioner.
